Water pipe replacement in Belgium
When steel narrows or corrodes, lead sheds particles, or the same run leaks again, a local patch is no longer enough. You notice it as pressure loss to distant outlets, brown water after long standing, or moisture that keeps returning in the same place. With lead on the supply, full removal is the only lasting choice for drinking water.

Our approach
Replacing water pipework methodically
We always follow the same order: survey and record material, locate before breaking in, draw circuits and valves, replace in phases in one material system, pressure test before close-up.
- 01
Survey route, materials and pressure
We trace existing pipework, record steel, lead, copper or mixed sections, and measure pressure at the furthest taps. That shows where the bore has narrowed and which length genuinely needs replacing instead of being patched again.
- 02
Locate leak and weak zone before opening
With a hidden leak or moisture and no visible source, we find the point as accurately as possible using pressure readings, acoustics or targeted detection. Only then do we make a limited opening in the right place.
- 03
New layout with valves per circuit
We lay out circuits per zone with valves in reachable positions. Water stays available elsewhere during the job, and you can isolate one bathroom later without shutting the whole installation.
- 04
Replace in phases with the chosen material
Zone by zone we isolate one circuit, remove the damaged length and install copper or multilayer with press joints in a single system. Multilayer cuts joints on awkward routes, copper stays robust for hot water. Openings stay as small as possible.
- 05
Pressure test, flush and handover
Each circuit is pressurised separately and monitored during the test before finishes are closed. We then flush through, check flow and pressure at outlets, and walk through what to expect after the work.
Why replace instead of repairing again
When supply pipework fails structurally
Galvanised steel can narrow internally or turn porous from corrosion. Pressure drops to upper floors, flow feels weak, and after hours standing the water may run discoloured from the tap.
Lead and worn steel sections cause repeated leaks at joints or pores. Lead in drinking water requires full removal of the affected run, not a local wrap.
Fixing the same spot again after each damp patch points to a zone that is weak along its length. Targeted replacement with a new layout then costs less than opening up again every few months.

From detection to installation upkeep
Not every situation needs a full replacement straight away. We link detection, repair, bathroom work or maintenance to what we measure on site.
- Leak detection - find a hidden leak before targeted opening
- Leak repair - when one joint or length is still repairable
- Bathroom - renew pipework while the zone is already open
- Plumbing maintenance - check valves, pressure and connections on a schedule
- Emergency plumber - do not delay an active leak or burst pipe
Warning signs
Signs supply pipes need replacing
These signs point to worn material or a leak behind the finish. The earlier you have it measured, the more targeted the opening stays.
- Repeated leaks or damp patches always along the same route.
- Clear pressure loss or weak flow to upper floors or distant taps.
- Brown or cloudy water after standing, then temporarily clearer.
- Corrosion visible on exposed steel or at an air vent.
- Meter moves slightly while everything is closed, with toilets ruled out.
- You plan to remove lead or steel after a test or renovation scope.
Before we arrive
What to do before the survey or start
A few preparations speed up the survey and limit water damage if a leak is active. Do not wait to shut off if water keeps running.
- 01
Note symptoms and outlets
Write down where pressure is low, where moisture appears, and whether water discolours after standing. That helps us prioritise the route.
- 02
Shut the relevant circuit if leaking
Turn the main or zone valve off if water keeps seeping. Catch remaining water and protect furniture in the wet area.
- 03
Clear access where pipework is visible
Free space under the sink, in the plant cupboard or at an access hatch so we can see material without breaking straight away.
- 04
Call with a short description
Say whether there is an active leak, renovation is planned, or lead is suspected. Our line is available 24/7.
Clear pricing
What determines the price
Installation on quote: we set the price after a visit on site.
The price depends on the length to replace, the material chosen (copper or multilayer), the number of circuits, and how much wall or floor work is needed to work safely. A bathroom that is already stripped is planned differently from a hidden leak mid-room.
After the on-site survey you receive a clear price before we expose or break into pipework. Call for an initial indication with no obligation. For an active leak the same logic applies: stabilise first, then price before definitive work.
Benefits
- Material and condition mapped before any blind opening
- Leak or weak zone located before breaking wall or floor
- One isolation valve per circuit for servicing without a full shutdown
- Phased execution and a single material system on each run
- Pressure test per circuit before close-up

Frequently asked questions

+32 2 000 00 00How much does water pipe replacement cost?
Installation on quote: we set the price after a visit on site. The price depends on the length to replace, the material chosen (copper or multilayer), the number of circuits, and how much wall or floor work is needed to work safely.
When is replacement smarter than repairing again?
With repeated leaks on the same run, clear pressure loss, discoloured water after standing, or porous steel and lead on the supply, we advise replacement rather than another patch. After the survey we explain which length must go.
Do you choose copper or multilayer?
Copper stays durable and handles hot water well on fixed routes. Multilayer is flexible, with fewer joints on bends and fewer leak points in tight ducts. We pick one system per zone and avoid mixed metals on the new length.
How do I spot a hidden leak before major damage?
Watch for a meter that moves slightly, moisture returning in the same place, a musty smell, or pressure that slowly drops. We combine measurement and detection to find the point before targeted opening.
How much breaking out is needed?
That depends on where weak material sits and how accurately we can locate it. We aim for the smallest opening that still allows safe work, often via existing boxing or hatches.
Is renovation the ideal timing?
When walls or floors are already open, renewing supply pipework is efficient. With an active leak or lead in drinking water, waiting for the build to finish is risky: damage and health concerns grow faster than the schedule.
Do you work across Belgium?
Not everywhere: we work in Brussels, Flanders and Wallonia, except the province of Luxembourg, and schedule travel subject to availability. Call us with your municipality and situation, and we will see if a survey or start on site is possible.
When should you call a plumber straight away?
Some signs are worth acting on straight away: a leak you cannot stop, water coming through a ceiling or a wall, a damp patch that keeps spreading, a sudden drop in pressure throughout the house, or water near a consumer unit or an electrical appliance. Close the main stop valve first: it limits the damage while the cause is being traced.

Why Van Dijk Home
Repairing section by section on a corroding run only moves the leak. We map material and symptoms, locate before breaking in, split into circuits with valves, and test each circuit before close-up. Up to 2 years warranty on labour; parts carry the manufacturer’s warranty. You choose copper or multilayer based on route and use, without mixed metals on the new length.
