Sockets and switches in Belgium
Extension leads in permanent use, a socket that grows warm or a switch that crackles are not cosmetic matters but signals of load and of connections that no longer clamp properly. Adding points solves the first issue, but only where the circuit can carry the extra load. So we first measure what is actually connected, then decide between extending and running a dedicated circuit.

Our approach
Measure sockets, repair them or put them on their own circuit
We measure voltage and continuity, check terminals and earthing, replace the mechanism or pull an extra circuit when the load needs it, and test under typical use.
- 01
Review circuit and usage
We measure the circuit load in normal use and review which appliances sit on it. That shows whether the addition is defensible on this circuit or needs a separate one.
- 02
Check existing points
Warm or crackling points are opened and the terminals checked for burn marks. A contact that has heated is replaced rather than retightened, since the terminal is already damaged.
- 03
Fit the new points
New points are installed with runs in conduit where that is possible. The position is chosen from how the room is used so extension leads do not become necessary again.
- 04
Test and remeasure
Every new point is tested for polarity, earthing and RCD operation. The circuit is remeasured and the board schedule updated with the new points.
Common causes
Why sockets run warm, spark or stay dead
A socket that runs warm or sparks often has a loose terminal, an undersized box or too much load on one outlet. Extension leads and multi-way strips hide the lack of fixed points until the joint fails.
Dead outlets can be a broken phase, a fault in the box or a problem further along the circuit. Without measurement you only swap the faceplate and leave the fault in the wiring.
Kitchen or workshop outlets without a dedicated circuit share power with light loads. Breakers then trip or contacts heat when several appliances run together.

Signs to watch
When a socket needs attention
These signs point to a poor joint, overload or a dead phase at the outlet.
- The socket or plug feels warm in normal use.
- You see sparks or hear crackling when plugging in.
- One outlet is dead while neighbours still work.
- Multi-ways and extension leads stay permanently necessary.
- The breaker trips when several appliances share the same zone.
- The faceplate is discoloured or the box is loose in the wall.
Until we arrive
What to do with a problematic socket
Avoid further loading a warm or sparking outlet. Do not touch open boxes.
- 01
Switch the circuit off if there is heat or sparks
Unplug appliances and turn the breaker off until we have measured.
- 02
Note which appliances were connected
Mention power or appliance type. Overload on one outlet steers whether a new circuit is needed.
- 03
Say if it is kitchen, workshop or bathroom
Wet zones and heavy loads need different materials and sometimes separate protection.
- 04
Call with that description
Give how many outlets fail and whether recent building work happened. Our line is available 24/7.

What sets the price
Installation on quote: we set the price after a visit on site.
Price depends on outlet count, box access and whether a local repair or a new circuit is needed. Swapping one mechanism is not charged like pulling a kitchen circuit.
You get the final price after on-site finding, before fitting. Call for a first indication, with no obligation.
Benefits
- Existing circuit load measured before anything is added
- Warm contacts and switches traced with thermal imaging
- Dedicated circuit where heavy appliances share one circuit
- Boxes and penetrations placed to allow a later addition
- Connections torqued and checked

+32 2 000 00 00What does repairing or adding sockets cost?
Installation on quote: we set the price after a visit on site. The final price depends on the number of sockets, whether new cable has to be pulled, the type of wall and whether the existing circuit can take the extra load.
May I keep using a warm socket?
No. Heat points to a poor joint or excess load. Switch the circuit off and have it measured before you load the outlet again.
Does a new mechanism fix every dead outlet?
Only if the fault is in the socket itself. If a cable is broken or the fault sits further in the box, we measure the circuit first.
Can you add sockets without a full renovation?
Often yes, via existing boxes or a short spur. If the feed is undersized, we pull a dedicated circuit from the board.
Do different rules apply in bathrooms or outdoors?
Yes. Distances, IP rating and protection differ. We choose materials that match the zone.
What warranty applies to socket work?
Up to 2 years warranty on labour; parts carry the manufacturer’s warranty.
When should you call an electrician straight away?
Some signs are worth acting on: a burning smell, a socket or switch that feels unusually hot, scorch marks, crackling sounds, breakers that keep tripping, an unexplained loss of power, or an electrical problem after water has got in. Where there are signs of overheating, or a fault that keeps returning, avoid resetting the circuit again and again before the cause has been found.
