Shower unblocking in Belgium
Water that takes forever to go down, a lukewarm pool sitting around the waste, a musty smell rising from the tray: most showers block up sooner or later. The cause is almost always the same, hair catching in the trap and holding on to soap, shampoo and limescale. We locate the blockage, choose the technique that suits your tray and clear the pipe without scratching the enamel or weakening the seals.

Our method
A shower cleared without harming the tray
Every tray and every trap has its constraints. We adapt the technique to your installation to clear the line properly, without scratching the tray or weakening the seals.
- 01
Trap diagnosis
We check whether the blockage sits in the trap, under the waste, or further along the pipe. That points to the right method.
- 02
Targeted removal
We take out the mass of hair, soap and limescale where it has formed, protecting the tray and its waste fitting throughout, so nothing is scratched or loosened.
- 03
Matched clearing
A flexible auger of the right diameter, or jetting at controlled pressure: we clear the pipe without straining the seals or the enamel.
- 04
Flow test
We run the water to confirm it drains freely, check the seal on the trap and advise you on the simple habits that keep the problem from coming back.
No damage
Protecting the enamel, the seals and the watertightness
A shower tray is more fragile than it looks: enamel scratches and silicone seals weaken under badly judged force. That is exactly what happens with improvised metal tools or chemical drain cleaners, which go after the fittings far more than the blockage. Our priority is to clear the waste without leaving the slightest mark on your installation.
We work with tools sized to the actual diameter of your waste pipe. The flexible auger follows the bend of the trap without forcing it, and when we jet, the pressure is set to shift hair and limescale while sparing the seals. The tray is protected throughout the job, and we check the seal once the pipe is clear.
The same approach applies to walk-in showers, whose ultra-flat trap demands precision. We avoid pointlessly removing the tray: in most cases the line clears through the waste, cleanly, without touching the tiling or the finishes.
Why a shower blocks up
Hair, soap and limescale: the trio that blocks the waste
A shower waste almost never blocks all at once. Every time you shower, a few hairs stay caught in the trap. They quickly form a mesh that traps residue from soap, shower gel and shampoo. That mixture turns into a greasy, sticky mass, and limescale settles into it too, especially in hard-water areas. The pipe's usable diameter shrinks slowly, until the day the water stops going down.
Walk-in showers and level-access trays make it worse. Their fall is often very slight and their trap ultra-flat, so the water drains gently and leaves more deposit behind it. That is where those persistent pools around the waste come from. A bath that empties slowly follows the same logic, with an overflow holding its own share of hair on top.
The right reflex is not to pour in a chemical drain cleaner, which rarely does anything to a genuine hair blockage while sitting in the standing water. Better to act early, when the flow first starts to weaken: the blockage is still reachable and the fittings stay unharmed.
Warning signs
The signs of a fouled shower waste
These symptoms point to a trap silting up gradually. Acting at the first signs avoids the standing pool and the bad smells.
- The water takes longer and longer to drain from the tray.
- A pool sits around the waste well after the shower.
- Gurgling can be heard at the waste outlet.
- A musty or drain smell rises from the shower tray.
- Clumps of hair and soap are visible around the grate.
- A bath empties far more slowly than it used to.
Until we arrive
What to do before we come round
A few simple steps limit the standing water and speed up the visit. Most important: do not attack the fittings with unsuitable products or tools.
- 01
Pull out the visible hair
Remove by hand the clumps of hair caught around the waste: it is often the most reachable part of the blockage.
- 02
Stop using the shower
Stop using the shower or bath while the water stands, so the tray does not overflow onto the floor.
- 03
No chemical drain cleaner
These products rarely act on a blockage of hair and soap, and they sit in the standing water while attacking the seals.
- 04
Mop up the standing water
Remove as much water from the tray as you can and clear the access around the waste so the technician can work fast.
Transparent pricing
What determines the price
Our call-outs start from €63.60 incl. VAT (6 % for homes over 10 years old, otherwise 21 %).
Unblocking a shower should not come with a nasty surprise. The price depends on where the blockage sits and the method required: a simple trap clean is not the same cost as more thorough jetting. Either way, we give you a clear estimate before we set off, with no supplement discovered on the invoice.
We only close the job once the flow is fully restored and the seal checked. Call us for an indication: we answer price questions directly, day or night.
Benefits
- Flow restored without removing the tray
- Tools chosen to protect the enamel and the seals
- Tools sized to the pipe's actual diameter
- Suited to walk-in showers and ultra-flat traps
- Seal checked before we leave

Our call-outs start from €63.60 incl. VAT (6 % for homes over 10 years old, otherwise 21 %). The price depends on where the blockage sits and the method required: a simple trap clean is not the same cost as more thorough jetting.
Why is water standing in my shower tray?
In the vast majority of cases, a shower waste blocks because of hair building up in the trap and holding on to soap and shampoo residue. That mixture gradually forms a greasy mass that clings to the walls and lets limescale settle into it. The water then takes longer and longer to drain, until it ends up standing in the tray, because the blockage sits lower down, in the bend of the trap.
Do walk-in showers block more easily?
They are more exposed to it, yes. Their fall is slight and their trap ultra-flat, so water drains more slowly and leaves more deposit. The blockage takes longer to form, but it settles deeper, all the more reason to act as soon as the flow weakens.
Will I damage my tray or seals if I unblock it myself?
That is the main risk. A piece of wire or a straightened coat hanger scratches the enamel and can pierce the trap; chemical cleaners attack silicone seals without dissolving a hair blockage. Pulling out by hand what is reachable around the waste is safe; beyond that, properly sized tools are the answer.
How do you avoid damaging the fittings during the job?
We pick the auger to match the real diameter of your waste so it follows the bend of the trap without forcing, we protect the tray and its waste fitting, and when we jet, the pressure is set for small bores. The seal is checked before we leave.
How do I stop the shower blocking again?
Fit a grate or hair filter over the waste and empty it after every shower: by far the most effective habit. Run hot water regularly to limit soap build-up, and descale the waste if your water is hard. A trap clean once or twice a year is enough after that in most households.
When should you call a drain technician straight away?
Some signs mean the blockage is no longer local: waste water backing up into a shower, sink or toilet, several fixtures draining slowly at the same time, water rising from a yard gully, or a sewer smell that lingers despite ventilation. In those cases, avoid reaching for chemical drain cleaners again and again: they attack seals and pipework without reaching a blockage further down the run.
