Outdoor electrics in Belgium

Outdoors is not indoors with a different fitting: moisture, temperature swings and the risk of damage during garden work make the requirements stricter. The most common cause of faults on outdoor circuits is a connection never intended for outdoor use, followed by cable laid too shallow. So we choose material by ingress rating, lay cable at depth in conduit, and measure the circuit and earthing afterwards.

Our approach

Pull outdoor circuits weather-tight and remeasure

We choose IP-rated materials, lay at depth in conduit with marking where needed, remake or replace wet joints and measure insulation, continuity and earthing at handover.

  1. 01

    Define zone and usage

We review which points need light or power and how the garden is used. From that follows the cable route and the position of joints, away from areas that get dug over often.

  2. 02

    Install the route

Cables are laid at depth in conduit with marker tape above the run. The cable stays replaceable and the route can be found again without searching for it later.

  3. 03

    Connect

Luminaires and outdoor connections are wired with enclosures and glands intended for outdoor use. The outdoor zone gets its own circuit so a fault there does not kill the indoor installation.

  4. 04

    Measure and test

After installation the circuit and earthing are measured and the RCD tested. We also check operation in damp conditions before handing the work over.

Common causes

Why outdoor circuits attract moisture and faults

Outdoor faults mostly come from boxes without a matching IP rating, glands that no longer seal or cable laid too shallow or without conduit. Rain and frost open those weak points until an insulation fault or a dead circuit appears.

Garden lighting, gates or an outdoor socket on an indoor circuit without proper separation carries faults into the home. A dedicated outdoor circuit with correct protection limits that risk.

Corrosion on terminals and UV damage to sheaths give intermittent faults that seem to vanish when dry. Without targeted material replacement the fault returns with the season.

Signs to watch

Signs of a weak outdoor installation

These signs point to moisture, shallow cable or materials that do not hold outdoors.

  • The RCD trips mainly after rain or in the morning.
  • Outdoor lighting or a gate fails intermittently.
  • There is water or condensation in a box or fitting.
  • Cable sits visibly shallow or without marking in the garden.
  • An outdoor socket sparks or feels damp.
  • After frost or heat the same faults return.

Until we arrive

What to do with a wet or faulty outdoor circuit

Keep power away from wet boxes. Do not open glands yourself if water is inside.

  1. 01

    Switch off the outdoor circuit

Turn off the relevant breaker or RCD until we have measured, especially if moisture is visible.

  2. 02

    Mark wet or suspect points

Note which fittings, gates or sockets fail and whether that follows rain.

  3. 03

Keep digging areas clear if known

If you know where the cable runs, keep that strip reachable. Do not dig down to the cable yourself.

  4. 04

    Call with that information

Say whether garden lighting, a gate or an outdoor socket is involved. Our line is available 24/7.

Transparent pricing

What sets the price

Installation on quote: we set the price after a visit on site.

Price depends on length and depth of the run, how many boxes or fittings are involved, and whether only joints or also cable must be replaced. Remaking a gland is not charged like pulling a new garden circuit.

You get the final price after on-site finding, before digging or fitting. Call for a first indication, with no obligation.

Benefits

  • Material chosen by ingress rating for outdoor use
  • Cable at depth in conduit so garden work is not a risk
  • Joints in enclosures intended for outdoor conditions
  • Dedicated circuit with RCD protection for the outdoor zone
  • Earthing measured after installation and recorded

What does repairing an outdoor installation cost?

Installation on quote: we set the price after a visit on site. The final price depends on the length of the cable run, the number of points, whether a trench or wall fixing is needed and the outdoor-rated materials.

Why does the RCD trip mainly after rain?

Moisture in an outdoor joint or shallow cable lowers insulation. We locate the wet point, replace seals or the run and remeasure.

Must every outdoor installation have its own circuit?

Not always required in every situation, but a dedicated outdoor circuit with matching protection stops a wet fault taking indoor circuits with it. We advise from your board and use.

How deep should outdoor cable be laid?

We lay at a depth and in conduit that match the route and the loaded zone, with marker tape where useful. Exact execution follows the on-site situation.

Can you keep existing garden lighting?

If fittings and IP rating are still sound, we reuse them and renew joints or cable. Worn material we replace selectively.

What warranty applies to outdoor work?

Up to 2 years warranty on labour; parts carry the manufacturer’s warranty.

When should you call an electrician straight away?

Some signs are worth acting on: a burning smell, a socket or switch that feels unusually hot, scorch marks, crackling sounds, breakers that keep tripping, an unexplained loss of power, or an electrical problem after water has got in. Where there are signs of overheating, or a fault that keeps returning, avoid resetting the circuit again and again before the cause has been found.
