Sanitary appliance replacement in Belgium
A cracked toilet, a basin that no longer holds water or a bath with failing sealant needs appliance replacement, not necessarily a full bathroom renovation. We first check whether a repair still makes sense or whether the cistern, the waste or the appliance itself must be renewed. Then we remove the old unit with limited breakout, dispose of the old sanitaryware, and fit a floor-standing or wall-hung appliance on the existing supply and waste.

Our approach
Replace sanitaryware with a clear method
On every replacement we follow the same order: decide repair versus replace, lock type and connections, remove with limited breakout, fit the new appliance with a waterproof finish, then test and dispose of the old unit.
- 01
Assess appliance, cistern and waste
We measure the existing toilet, basin or bath, check whether the cistern and waste are still usable, and whether seals or internals alone will do. That finding decides repair or replacement, and which appliance type fits without rebuilding the room.
- 02
Proposal and choice of type
You receive a proposal covering removal, fitting, waterproof finish and disposal of the old appliance. We explain the difference between floor-standing and wall-hung sanitaryware, including what the wall and existing waste allow. Work starts only after you agree.
- 03
Remove with limited breakout
The old appliance comes out, including worn seals and fixings. Breakout stays limited to what is needed to reach supply, waste or a concealed cistern. We dispose of the old sanitaryware within the agreed scope.
- 04
Fit the new appliance and waterproof finish
The new unit is aligned, fixed and connected to supply and waste with new seals. Around bath, basin or toilet we restore the waterproof finish so splash water does not track behind furniture or into the wall.
- 05
Test and hand over
We flush through, check cistern, trap and joints for leaks, and leave the area clean. You get guidance on caring for seals, shut-offs and, for a toilet, the flush mechanism.
Common causes
When replacement makes more sense than repair
A hairline crack in ceramic, a basin that has gone porous or a bath whose sealant no longer bonds is rarely sealed for good. Water then finds a path behind the finish, even when the leak looks small.
On a toilet, the cistern or waste collar often fails before the pan. A worn flush mechanism, a leaking inlet valve or a collar that no longer seats on the stack sometimes needs only those parts, sometimes a full pan and cistern replacement.
Wall-hung sanitaryware hangs on a frame and a concealed cistern. Corroded fixings, a leak in the cistern or removal without support can load the wall. Type and fixing are chosen after checking the wall and existing waste, not on looks alone.
Related work
From a single appliance to wider bathroom works
Sometimes a new toilet or basin is enough. Sometimes a tap, leak repair, kitchen plumbing or a technical bathroom renovation is the logical next step. We match the right intervention to what we see on site.
- Sanitary installation - fit a new toilet, basin or shower with a correct connection
- Bathroom renovation - when pipework, waterproofing and layout must move with it
- Tap replacement - renew mixer or thermostatic tap at the appliance
- Leak repair - repair a leak at joint, trap or cistern in a focused way
- Kitchen plumbing - renew sink or kitchen connections to the furniture plan
Signals to watch
Spot when sanitaryware is due for replacement
These signs show that a repair only buys time, or that replacing the toilet, basin or bath will last longer. The earlier you call, the less breaking-out and water damage there will be.
- Hairline crack, broken rim or porous ceramic that lets moisture through.
- Toilet cistern that runs continuously, refills endlessly or wets behind the wall.
- Sealant around bath or basin that peels or turns black.
- Trap or waste collar that smells, leaks or no longer seats tightly.
- Wobbly pan or basin from worn fixings or a damp support.
- Moisture behind furniture or in the wall despite repeated resealing.
Until we arrive
What to do while you wait for the plumber
A few steps limit water damage and speed up removal. Do not force seized nuts or concealed parts.
- 01
Shut the local or main stopcock
Close the bathroom valve or the main stopcock if water is escaping at cistern, tap or waste.
- 02
Catch leaking water
Put a bucket or towels under trap, cistern or bath seal. Protect furniture and electrical appliances in the wet zone.
- 03
Clear access
Move toiletries and loose furniture around the appliance. For a concealed cistern, a clear access hatch helps.
- 04
Call us with type and symptom
Say whether it is a toilet, basin or bath, floor-standing or wall-hung, and whether you see a leak, crack or failed flush. That helps us bring the right materials.
Transparent pricing
What determines the price
Installation on quote: we set the price after a visit on site.
Price depends on appliance type, floor-standing or wall-hung, the state of cistern and waste, whether limited breakout is needed, and whether disposal of the old sanitaryware is included. A basin on an existing trap is not priced like a wall-hung toilet with a concealed cistern.
You get a price agreement after the on-site finding, before we start removal. Call us for a first indication, without obligation. Our line is available 24/7; we can schedule depending on the area and availability.

+32 2 000 00 00How much does sanitary appliance replacement cost?
Installation on quote: we set the price after a visit on site. Price depends on appliance type, floor-standing or wall-hung, the state of cistern and waste, whether limited breakout is needed, and whether disposal of the old sanitaryware is included.
Does my bathroom need a full renovation to replace sanitaryware?
Not always. If supply and waste remain usable, we replace toilet, basin or bath on the existing connections. A technical renovation is only needed when pipework, waterproofing or layout must move with it.
Do you choose floor-standing or wall-hung sanitaryware?
That depends on wall strength, existing waste, frame and the cleaning space you want. We explain both options after measuring and pick what is safe and durable, not looks alone.
How do you keep breakout limited?
We open only what is needed to reach fixings, cistern or waste. Where an access hatch or existing boxing gives access, we avoid larger breakout.
What happens to the old toilet or bath?
Disposal of the old appliance can be part of the job. We remove ceramic and fittings within the agreed scope and leave the area clean.
When do you repair the cistern instead of replacing everything?
If the pan and waste are still sound, new flush gear, inlet valve or collar often suffice. With a crack, porous ceramic or a structural leak, we advise full replacement so the problem does not return.
Do I get a warranty on the replacement?
Up to 2 years warranty on labour; parts carry the manufacturer’s warranty.
When should you call a plumber straight away?
Some signs are worth acting on straight away: a leak you cannot stop, water coming through a ceiling or a wall, a damp patch that keeps spreading, a sudden drop in pressure throughout the house, or water near a consumer unit or an electrical appliance. Close the main stop valve first: it limits the damage while the cause is being traced.
