Water damage prevention in Belgium
Water damage rarely appears from nowhere. A damp patch, a slight pressure drop or discoloration on a wall is often an early sign that a seal, coupler or pipe is starting to fail. Ignoring those signals later multiplies the cost of repairing floors, ceilings and insulation.

Our method
From inspection to protection
We inventory risk zones, check seals and pressure, locate hidden weak points where needed, then propose targeted measures: renew, optionally secure with a shut-off valve, or replace a run when repair is no longer enough.
- 01
Survey risk areas and signals
We start from what you already see or hear: damp patches, pressure drop, meter movement or a musty smell. Then we walk the kitchen, bathroom, plant room and other wet zones to see where a small defect would quickly cause large damage.
- 02
Visual and technical inspection
Seals, couplers, flexible hoses and accessible pipes are checked for wear, corrosion and early leakage. Where needed we measure water pressure and use leak detection to locate hidden weak points without needless opening.
- 03
Walk the critical zones with care
Under basins, baths and showers, behind walls and under screeds, transitions between older and newer materials, rainwater drainage, silicone and roof penetrations, and where relevant heating pipes with pressure differences receive particular attention.
- 04
Propose and carry out protection
After the analysis we explain which measures make sense: renew a seal, strengthen a coupler, or optionally fit an automatic shut-off valve that cuts the supply when a leak is detected. Each proposed step is priced separately.
- 05
Report, advice and handover
You get a clear picture of the installation’s condition and what comes first. Completed work is handed over with a check. A documented round can help with an insurance claim file, without any guarantee of payout from the insurer.
Why prevention matters
Where water damage often grows quietly
Moisture and infiltration slowly attack load-bearing structures, insulation and finishes. A leak left unnoticed for weeks can travel along beams and cavity walls, encourage mould and worsen indoor air quality. The damage often stays hidden until repair has become far more expensive.
Risks build up on installations with more wear, after renovation, or in complex networks with many sanitary points or high pressure. Material transitions, tired silicone and inaccessible couplers are typical starting points.
Not every risk point needs a major intervention. A worn seal or a lightly weeping coupler is often fixed during the inspection. When pipes are affected in several places or show advanced corrosion, local repair is no longer durable. We then advise targeted replacement of the vulnerable run.

Early signals
Spot water-damage risk in time
These signs show that prevention or a quick check is worthwhile before damage grows large.
- A damp patch or discoloration that spreads on wall, ceiling or floor.
- A slight pressure drop or a meter that turns with no tap open.
- A musty smell or early mould around a wet zone.
- Silicone joints or seals that dry out, crack or peel away.
- Damp under basins, behind kitchen units or at appliance connections.
- Wet spots near roof penetrations, rainwater drainage or heating pipes.
Before the visit
What to prepare for the preventive inspection
A few preparations make the round faster and more complete. You do not need to open anything up.
- 01
Note signals and zones
Write down where you see damp, smell, pressure drop or discoloration, and since when. Photos help set priorities.
- 02
Make plant areas accessible
Keep the water meter, main stopcock, boiler or manifold and under-basin cabinets clear to reach.
- 03
Mention recent works
Say whether new connections were fitted after renovation or whether parts of the network mix older and newer materials. That steers the check.
- 04
Keep shut-offs clear
Move items away from circuits and valves so we can test them without losing time.
Transparent pricing
What determines the price
Our call-outs start from €63.60 incl. VAT (6 % for homes over 10 years old, otherwise 21 %).
The price of prevention depends on the size of the installation, the number of risk zones and whether leak detection or small repairs are needed during the visit. A simple round is not charged like a route with many hidden pipes.
After the on-site finding you get a price agreed per proposed measure, before work starts. Call us for a first indication, without obligation.
Benefits
- Systematic check of seals, couplers and water pressure
- Focus on critical zones under basins, behind walls and at mixed joints
- Clear choice between monitoring, repair or targeted replacement
- Optional advice on a leak detector or automatic shut-off valve

+32 2 000 00 00How much does water damage prevention cost?
Our call-outs start from €63.60 incl. VAT (6 % for homes over 10 years old, otherwise 21 %). The price of prevention depends on the size of the installation, the number of risk zones and whether leak detection or small repairs are needed during the visit.
What exactly does water-damage prevention include?
It is a systematic inspection of pipes, connections, seals, couplers and vulnerable zones for early leakage or wear. Where needed we measure water pressure and use leak detection. The aim is to find and fix weak points before they grow into visible damage to walls, floors or foundations.
Is prevention still useful on a new build?
Yes. Even new installations can hide a connection fault, an under-tightened coupler or a poorly fitted seal that only starts leaking months later. A check shortly after handover and again after the first year confirms everything was made watertight.
How often is a preventive check recommended?
For most homes, every two to three years is a sound starting point, as guidance rather than a legal rule. On installations with more wear, after renovation, with higher water use, or in complex networks with many sanitary points or high pressure, yearly follow-up is often wiser. We match the rhythm to the condition of your installation.
Can prevention limit damage to foundations and structure?
Yes. A main goal is to avoid prolonged infiltration into load-bearing structures. Moisture that seeps for weeks into beams, cavity walls or foundations causes damage and mould that are expensive to repair. Early detection keeps the intervention limited.
Does a documented check help with my insurance?
Often yes, as supporting evidence. Insurers increasingly expect demonstrably careful management of the water installation. A report shows that care and can help when a claim file is assessed. It is not a guarantee of payout, but a useful element in your favour.
Is water-damage prevention available across Belgium?
Not everywhere: we carry out preventive inspections for homes and businesses in Brussels, Flanders and Wallonia, except the province of Luxembourg. You book a time that suits you and know in advance what the check covers. Afterwards we discuss findings and next steps.
When should you call a plumber straight away?
Some signs are worth acting on straight away: a leak you cannot stop, water coming through a ceiling or a wall, a damp patch that keeps spreading, a sudden drop in pressure throughout the house, or water near a consumer unit or an electrical appliance. Close the main stop valve first: it limits the damage while the cause is being traced.
