Toilet unblocking in Belgium

A toilet that no longer flushes away, or that backs up when you pull the handle, is nearly always caused by something that does not belong in the pan: wet wipes, hygiene products or cat litter bind together and lodge in the trap or just past the connection. Sometimes the cause is not in the pan at all but a flush that is too weak. So we check both: first where the blockage sits, then whether the flush volume is enough to prevent it.

Our approach

Our method for unblocking a toilet

Every blocked toilet goes through the same steps: we look for the cause before acting, then choose the technique that clears it without ever damaging your sanitary ware.

  1. 01

    Diagnosis

We establish whether the obstruction sits in the bowl, in the trap or deeper in the pipe. That reading drives the technique and avoids pointless work.

  2. 02

    Targeted clearing

A professional auger through the pan, mechanical clearing, or high-pressure jetting when the blockage sits downstream. Never any needless breaking, and never a tool that could mark the ceramic.

  3. 03

    Control test

We run several flushes and check the waste keeps flowing freely, so you get a working toilet rather than a temporary fix.

  4. 04

    Prevention advice

Before we leave, we explain where the blockage came from and the simple habits that keep it from returning, starting with what should never go down the pan.

Common causes

Why a toilet blocks up

The vast majority of blocked toilets are caused by things that never belonged there: wet wipes, kitchen roll, sanitary products, cotton pads or simply too much paper at once. Unlike toilet paper, these materials do not break down in water and catch on the limescale already sitting in the bowl and the trap.

Wear adds to it: in hard-water areas, limescale narrows the usable diameter of the waste pipe year after year. The passage tightens, and very little is then needed to form a complete blockage. Sometimes the origin lies further away, a reverse gradient, roots in the buried pipe, or a fouled shared soil stack in an apartment block.

Knowing the real cause prevents repeat call-outs. That is why we do more than restore the flow: we tell you where the blockage came from and how to avoid it.

When the problem returns

Why some toilets keep blocking

A toilet that is cleared and blocks again days later almost always hides a deeper cause, further along than the bowl itself. Clearing relieves the symptom, but as long as the origin stays in place the blockage reforms. It is frustrating, and quickly expensive once you add up the repeat visits.

The usual culprits are limescale gradually narrowing the waste pipe, a reverse gradient that stops water draining away properly, roots that have entered the outside pipe, or a fouled shared soil stack. In each of those cases, an auger pushed quickly through only postpones the problem.

When a blockage returns, we favour a camera inspection: looking inside the pipe and pinpointing the exact obstruction. We can then propose a lasting fix (high-pressure jetting, descaling or root treatment) instead of yet another temporary clearance.

Warning signs

Spotting a blocked toilet in time

A real blockage rarely appears overnight. These signs mean it is time to act, before the bowl overflows.

  • The water rises with every flush, then drops very slowly.
  • Gurgling noises in the bowl or in the basin next to it.
  • A persistent drain smell around the toilet.
  • The water level stays abnormally high, or unusually low.
  • Water backs up in the shower when you flush.
  • The toilet blocks again days after a simple clearance.

Until we arrive

What to do before we get there

A few simple steps limit the damage and speed up the visit. Above all, avoid aggressive chemical drain cleaners.

  1. 01

    Stop flushing

Every extra flush raises the level and brings an overflow closer. Let the water drop back down first.

  2. 02

    Shut off the water

Close the isolating valve behind the pan so nothing can overflow while you wait.

  3. 03

    Mop up and clear access

Mop up any spillage and free the space around the toilet so the technician can work straight away.

  4. 04

    Call us, skip the chemicals

Chemical cleaners attack ceramic and seals without dissolving a solid blockage. Call us instead.

Transparent pricing

What determines the price

Our call-outs start from €63.60 incl. VAT (6 % for homes over 10 years old, otherwise 21 %).

The price of unblocking a toilet depends on the nature of the blockage, where it sits and the method needed to clear it. A simple clearance through the pan is not billed like high-pressure jetting on a fouled pipe downstream. We always start from your actual situation, never from an inflated flat rate because the breakdown puts you under pressure.

You get a clear estimate before we begin, and the job is only closed once the waste is fully restored and checked. Call us: we answer price questions directly, with no obligation.

How much does toilet unblocking cost?

Our call-outs start from €63.60 incl. VAT (6 % for homes over 10 years old, otherwise 21 %). The price of unblocking a toilet depends on the nature of the blockage, where it sits and the method needed to clear it.

How quickly can you unblock a toilet?

Arrival time depends on the area, traffic and availability. A blockage in the bowl or trap is usually cleared quickly once we are on site.

Does the pan have to be removed to unblock a toilet?

Rarely. In the vast majority of cases an auger or high-pressure jetting is enough. Removal is only considered when a solid object is stuck in the trap, and always with your agreement.

Do chemical drain cleaners work on a blocked toilet?

No, and they are risky. They do not dissolve compacted paper or wet wipes, but they do damage ceramic and seals and make the job more dangerous for the technician. Better to pour nothing in.

My toilet keeps blocking, what now?

That points to a cause upstream: limescale, a reverse gradient, roots or a fouled shared stack. A camera inspection locates the obstruction so we can treat the cause instead of repeating clearances.

Do you come out at night and at weekends for a blocked toilet?

Yes. Our line answers 24/7, weekends and public holidays included.

When should you call a drain technician straight away?

Some signs mean the blockage is no longer local: waste water backing up into a shower, sink or toilet, several fixtures draining slowly at the same time, water rising from a yard gully, or a sewer smell that lingers despite ventilation. In those cases, avoid reaching for chemical drain cleaners again and again: they attack seals and pipework without reaching a blockage further down the run.
