Sanitary installation in Belgium

New sanitary ware looks like a choice of model and finish, but over time the connection behind it decides the outcome. Insufficient fall, a trap too close to the stack or a supply that does not match the appliance leads to slow drainage, odours or leaks behind tiles. Van Dijk Home measures supply, waste and available fall first, checks compatibility with your unit, then completes the job with testing and watertight sealing.

Our approach

Fitting sanitary ware with survey and water test

Every fitting follows the same order: measure, match, dry test fit, final connection, water test and handover. The appliance stays accessible for maintenance and you avoid a leak hidden under fresh silicone.

  1. 01

    Survey connections and fall

We measure supply and waste heights, the fall available towards the stack and space for venting. That shows before fitting whether the chosen appliance suits this position or whether the waste must be adapted.

  2. 02

Match appliance to the existing installation

We compare connection sizes, flow and fixings to wall or floor. For a bidet, wall-hung toilet or concealed cistern we also check the frame, weight and access for later maintenance.

  3. 03

    Dry test fit

The unit is placed without sealant to check alignment, doors, units and tapware. Once everything is right, we prepare the final connection.

  4. 04

    Final fit and connection

Supply, waste and venting where needed are connected. The appliance is fixed with supports suited to the wall build-up or floor, and every joint gets fresh seals.

  5. 05

    Water test, sealing and handover

We fill, drain and check every joint for damp. Sealing follows only when everything stays dry. We explain isolation valves and what to watch during first use.

Why installs fail

Common mistakes when fitting sanitary ware

Insufficient fall or a long horizontal waste run leaves water sitting in the trap. The result is a slow basin, a shower tray that holds water or a toilet that blocks often, even with a new appliance.

Missing or undersized venting stops air escaping in the waste run. Odours then come back through the trap even when the seal around the appliance looks perfect.

Flexible hoses or couplers that do not match, or fixings on too weak a substrate, cause leaks behind units or under floors. Without a test fit you often notice only after finishing.

Signals to watch

When professional fitting makes sense

These situations suggest swapping the appliance alone is not enough, or that a new fit should be planned before tiles or furniture are fixed.

  • You buy a new toilet, basin, bidet or shower and connection sizes differ from the existing points.
  • Water keeps sitting in the shower tray or basin despite a new trap.
  • Odour from waste or trap even after thorough cleaning.
  • Damp under the unit, behind the cistern or along the silicone line.
  • Change from a floor-standing to a wall-hung toilet or an extra outlet for bidet or shower.
  • Renovation where pipework becomes visible and you want everything connected correctly in one go.

Before we start

What to prepare before fitting

Short preparation speeds up the survey and limits damage to finishes. You do not need to remove the appliance yet.

  1. 01

    Describe the unit and location

State which sanitary ware you want fitted, whether it is new work or replacement, and whether supply or waste is already exposed.

  2. 02

    Clear access to the zone

Free space under the basin unit or around the toilet so we can reach valves, flexibles and waste. Protect floor and furniture in the work area.

  3. 03

Note the model or send a photo

Unit dimensions and connection type help us plan materials and time ahead of the visit.

  4. 04

Check that supply can be isolated

Locate an angle or stop valve that closes properly. If one is missing or will not shut, mention it when you call so we can bring extra valves.

Transparent pricing

What determines the price

Installation on quote: we set the price after a visit on site.

Price depends on appliance type, number of connection points, whether waste must be adapted and whether a frame or concealed cistern is involved. A basin on an existing trap is not priced like a wall-hung toilet with new supply and venting.

After the on-site survey you receive the final price before work starts. Call us for an initial indication. We can attend depending on the area and availability for survey or start of work.

Benefits

  • Fall and venting measured before the appliance is fixed in place
  • Connection to existing supply with matching materials and isolation valves
  • Water test and sealing only after a successful dry test fit

Equipment & techniques

Level and laser for alignment and fall Press tooling and transition couplers per pipe type Fixings for hollow and solid walls Venting parts and traps for waste circuits Sanitary silicone and a full seal set Flow and pressure meter at the outlet

What does sanitary installation cost?

Installation on quote: we set the price after a visit on site. The final price depends on the type of fixture, the number of connections, whether the supply or waste pipes need adapting and how accessible the existing pipework is.

Which sanitary appliances do you fit?

We fit common units: standing and wall-hung toilets, basins, bidets, shower trays and baths, with traps and connections. For non-standard models we confirm dimensions after measuring your existing points.

Does the waste always need changing?

Not always. When fall and diameter already suit the new unit, a direct connection is often enough. If fall, outlet height or an extra point is wrong, we adapt the waste in a targeted way, within the scope agreed upfront.

Do you fit taps as well as the sanitary unit?

Yes. Mixer taps and shower valves can be fitted or renewed in the same visit. Flow and connections then match the chosen basin or shower unit.

How quickly can fitting take place?

Straightforward fitting on existing connections is often done in one visit once the survey is complete. More complex waste or wall-hung toilets may need extra time. Our line is 24/7; scheduling follows availability, without a fixed arrival-time promise.

Do I get a warranty on the installation?

Up to 2 years warranty on labour; parts carry the manufacturer’s warranty.

When should you call a plumber straight away?

Some signs are worth acting on straight away: a leak you cannot stop, water coming through a ceiling or a wall, a damp patch that keeps spreading, a sudden drop in pressure throughout the house, or water near a consumer unit or an electrical appliance. Close the main stop valve first: it limits the damage while the cause is being traced.

Why Van Dijk Home

Sanitary ware that smells or drains slowly is rarely the unit itself; it is fall, venting or a leaking connection. We measure those points before fitting, carry out a dry test fit and hand over with a water test and neat sealing.
