Underfloor heating in Belgium
Underfloor heating spreads warmth evenly and works best at low flow temperatures, usually between 35 and 45 °C. That suits condensing boilers and heat pumps when loop lengths, insulation and controls are right. We choose the system on site: pipes cast into a slab on new build, milling into screed on renovation, or a low-build overlay when floor height must stay limited.

Our approach
Installing underfloor heating in fixed steps
Every installation follows the same order: survey and choose the system, calculate loops, lay pipes and manifold, connect, then pressure test and hydraulically balance with recorded flows.
- 01
Survey and system choice
We review rooms, insulation, floor build-up and existing heating. That shows whether cast-in pipes, milling into screed or a thin overlay is most realistic, and whether a mixing group is needed alongside radiators.
- 02
Loop calculation
Per zone we calculate heat loss and loop length so flows stay comparable. Loops that are too long or too short later create cold patches that are hard to fix without opening the floor.
- 03
Pipes, insulation and manifold
Pipes are laid to plan with insulation where required, fixings and edge strips. The manifold sits in an accessible location with a flow meter and balancing valve per loop, ready to connect once the floor layer is complete.
- 04
Connect to heat source
We connect the manifold to boiler, heat pump or mixing group and match flow temperature and pump speed to the floor. With mixed emitters we separate hydraulically where the controls require it.
- 05
Pressure test and hydraulic balance
Loops are pressurised and checked before and while the floor finish is applied. After filling and venting we set flow on each loop and record the settings for a gradual start-up.
Why install or rethink
When underfloor heating is the logical choice
Renovation with limited floor height often needs milling into existing screed or a thin overlay instead of full cast-in pipes. Without a prior survey the wrong system is chosen for insulation or door thresholds.
Condensing boilers and heat pumps perform better when emitters can run at low temperature. Underfloor fits that, but only if loop lengths and flows are correct; otherwise the boiler still runs at high flow temperature.
Radiators and underfloor on one circuit without a mixing group or zones force conflicting temperatures. Mixing and separate zone control stop the floor overheating while radiators still call for heat.
Related work
From full circuit to controls and maintenance
Underfloor heating belongs in one plan with generation, other emitters and water quality. We point to the next step that matches what we find on site.
- Central heating installation - design, install and balance a full circuit
- Energy-efficient heating - cut consumption with suitable generation and controls
- Radiators - size, fit or replace room by room
- Thermostat and controls - align zones, flow temperature and boiler control
- Heating system flush - clean the circuit before or after major work on generation
Warning signs
When underfloor heating needs a closer look
These signs point to poor installation, missing balancing or a plan that does not suit low-temperature generation. Measuring early avoids opening the floor later.
- Cold stripes or zones in the floor while the boiler is running.
- Floor feels warm but the room stays uncomfortable because heating cycles are too short.
- Flow temperature must stay high to warm the floor despite a low-temperature boiler.
- Renovation planned and you are unsure between milling, thin overlay or radiators only.
- Radiators and underfloor together without clear mixing or zones.
- Pressure on the floor circuit drops after finishing or no pressure test was recorded.
Before the job
What you can prepare
Plans, floor build-up and desired zones speed up the quote. You do not need to lay pipes yourself; a reachable work area helps.
- 01
Note floor build-up and insulation
State screed thickness, insulation under the floor and any existing underfloor heating. That decides milling versus thin overlay.
- 02
Mark rooms and zones
Say which rooms need separate control and where the manifold can stay accessible, for example in a plant area.
- 03
Describe existing heating
Mention boiler type, heat pump or planned replacement and whether radiators stay. Mixing and controls depend on that.
- 04
Arrange a survey

Clear pricing
Quote based on area and system
Installation on quote: we set the price after a visit on site.
Price depends on the system chosen (cast-in, milled or thin overlay), number of loops, manifold access and any mixing group or tie-in to existing radiators. A single zone on new build is not priced like milling across several floors.
You receive the final price after survey and loop plan, before we start. Call for an initial indication, with no obligation.
Benefits
- Even heat with flow usually between 35 and 45 °C, suited to condensing boilers and heat pumps
- Choice of slab, milled screed or thin overlay after surveying floor build-up and insulation
- Manifold with flow setting and balancing per loop, mixing group when radiators share the system
- Pressure test before finishing and hydraulic balancing at commissioning

+32 2 000 00 00How much does underfloor heating cost?
Installation on quote: we set the price after a visit on site. Price depends on the system chosen (cast-in, milled or thin overlay), number of loops, manifold access and any mixing group or tie-in to existing radiators.
What flow temperature suits underfloor heating?
We usually work between about 35 and 45 °C flow, depending on floor build-up and insulation. That suits condensing boilers and heat pumps when loops are calculated and balanced.
Milling, cast-in or thin overlay for renovation?
It depends on remaining floor height, insulation and screed condition. After survey we compare options with impact on doors and warm-up time, without pushing a single system.
Can underfloor work with radiators?
Yes, with hydraulic separation or a mixing group and zones that respect the lower floor temperature. Without that alignment the floor overheats or radiators underperform.
Why does underfloor respond slowly?
The mass of floor and screed heats gradually. A continuous base temperature with zone thermostats often works better than short bursts. We set controls and start-up to limit cracking.
Is underfloor maintenance-free?
Correctly installed it is durable, but no system is maintenance-free forever. We avoid promises of decades without care. Up to 2 years warranty on labour; parts carry the manufacturer’s warranty.
What happens in the pressure test?
Loops are pressurised before the floor is final. The test stays in place where possible during pour or finish so a leak shows at once rather than at handover.
When should you call a heating engineer straight away?
If you smell gas, leave the building and call 112 before doing anything else. Other signs also call for action: a carbon monoxide alarm going off, soot marks or fumes around the boiler, a lockout that keeps returning, or a leak on the heating circuit. Avoid resetting the boiler over and over, as the lockout protects the installation and points to a fault that needs tracing.
