Energy-efficient heating in Belgium
Energy-efficient heating is rarely a single new appliance. Insulation, generation and controls must align: flow temperatures set too high, unbalanced radiators or a boiler running outside its condensing range raise bills without warming every room evenly. Van Dijk Home starts with measurement and an honest picture of your emitters, compares condensing gas, heat pump and hybrid options against insulation and available space, and proposes a phased path: lower flow and smarter zones first, then boiler or hybrid if needed, and underfloor when you renovate anyway.

Our approach
Advice first, then phased delivery
We always follow the same order: measure and estimate demand, review insulation and generation together, optimise controls and flow, then appliance or underfloor.
- 01
Measure use, temperatures and emitters
We measure flow, return and room temperatures while the system runs and review radiators, manifolds or floor circuits. Current controls and the type of generation are part of the review, without reducing your home to a construction year.
- 02
Assess insulation and generation together
From heat demand and achievable flow temperatures we compare condensing boiler, heat pump, hybrid and control-only measures. We state when a heat pump can pay off and when emitters or insulation should come first.
- 03
Phase 1: weather curve, balancing and zones
Where possible we lower flow temperature, balance the circuit and set thermostat or room controllers. This step often costs less than a new appliance and clarifies later choices.
- 04
Phase 2: boiler or hybrid if needed
If measurements show generation is the bottleneck, we plan installation or replacement on a correctly sized circuit. Hybrid or full heat pump is discussed only when emitters and insulation can support it.
- 05
Phase 3: underfloor when renovating and remeasure
During planned works, low-temperature underfloor can be the next logical step. After each phase we remeasure and record settings so you can track the effect on use and comfort.
Why consumption stays high
Typical loss points in an existing system
A weather curve set too high or a boiler that rarely condenses burns extra gas while returns stay hot. That often shows when radiators are poorly balanced or one zone keeps the whole boiler on high flow.
Unbalanced circuits leave distant radiators lukewarm while the boiler runs constantly. Without flow measurement, a new appliance looks like the answer while balancing and zone valves already improve comfort and efficiency.
A heat pump or hybrid on a circuit sized for high temperatures forces the unit outside its most efficient range. Then improving emitters, insulation or flow temperature is smarter than swapping generation too quickly.

From controls to generation and emitters
Efficient heating touches thermostat, boiler, radiators, underfloor and sometimes the full circuit. We link the step that fits your phase, without forcing everything into one job.
- Thermostat and controls - align zones, weather curve and boiler control
- Boiler installation - condensing or hybrid on a suitable circuit
- Central heating installation - recalculate and redesign the full circuit
- Radiators - size or replace for lower flow temperature
- Underfloor heating - low-temperature emitters during renovation
Signals to watch
When an energy review makes sense
These signs show controls, emitters and generation no longer cooperate. Measuring and comparing avoids costly replacement with little effect.
- Consumption rises while comfort stays the same or rooms heat unevenly.
- The boiler often runs at high flow while radiators heat unevenly.
- You consider a heat pump or hybrid but doubt existing radiators or pipework.
- After better insulation or new windows the weather curve is unchanged and condensing is rare.
- No zone control: one thermostat drives the whole house regardless of occupancy.
- Underfloor and radiators share one circuit without clear flows or temperatures.
Before the advice visit
What to prepare for an energy review
A few details speed up measurement and comparison. You do not need to open pipework; access to the boiler plant and manifolds is enough.
- 01
Note use and comfort per room
List recent bills, cold zones and when you are home. That helps with zones and judging whether lower flow is realistic.
- 02
Clear access to boiler plant and manifolds
Space around the boiler, expansion vessel and any manifolds lets us measure temperatures and flows without moving furniture on the day.
- 03
Share plans or upcoming renovation
If underfloor or extra insulation is planned, say so. We align phase three with a realistic build schedule rather than isolated quick wins.
- 04
Call us with generation type and goal
Say whether you consider gas, hybrid or heat pump and what you want: lower use, the same comfort or preparation for later renovation. We plan measurement and follow-up accordingly.

What determines the price
Our call-outs start from €72.60 incl. 21% VAT.
Price depends on analysis depth, number of zones, control work required and whether generation or emitters are replaced. Balancing and curve adjustment alone is not comparable to fitting hybrid on a recalculated circuit.
After measurement you receive a price for the agreed phase before work starts. Call us for an initial orientation, with no obligation. Our line is available 24/7, with scheduling often the same week subject to availability.
Benefits
- Advice that puts insulation, generation and controls in one picture before major spend
- Fair comparison of condensing, heat pump and hybrid against your emitters and insulation
- Phased plan: regulation and lower flow first, appliance only when it makes sense
- Lower weather curve and zones where radiators or floor circuits allow it

+32 2 000 00 00How much does energy-efficient heating cost?
Our call-outs start from €72.60 incl. 21% VAT. Price depends on analysis depth, number of zones, control work required and whether generation or emitters are replaced.
Do I need a heat pump straight away to heat more efficiently?
Not automatically. We compare condensing, hybrid and heat pump against your insulation and emitters. Often lower flow, balancing and zones already help; a heat pump is most efficient when low-temperature emitters and insulation support it.
What is your first phase?
Measure temperatures and flows, then lower the curve where possible, balance the circuit and create control zones. Only when measurements show generation is the limit do we discuss boiler, hybrid or extending emitters.
Can radiators work at lower flow temperature?
Often yes, with proper balancing and sometimes sizing or valve adjustment. Underfloor is naturally low temperature; we test what is feasible before recommending a heat pump.
Do you install insulation?
We advise how insulation and heating fit together and refer where needed to insulation work outside our trade. Our work focuses on controls, hydraulics, generation and emitters within the heating circuit.
Where can I read more about heat pump or cooling?
For installation, sizing or cooling integration around heat pump technology we refer to our air conditioning offer, where those paths are handled separately. Energy-efficient heating remains an advisory service within central heating; we do not merge everything into one job without your agreement.
Is there a warranty on the work?
Up to 2 years warranty on labour; parts carry the manufacturer’s warranty.
When should you call a heating engineer straight away?
If you smell gas, leave the building and call 112 before doing anything else. Other signs also call for action: a carbon monoxide alarm going off, soot marks or fumes around the boiler, a lockout that keeps returning, or a leak on the heating circuit. Avoid resetting the boiler over and over, as the lockout protects the installation and points to a fault that needs tracing.
